Hermetics

Hermeticism is a mystical-occult current that appeared in antiquity, whose name comes from the controversial character Hermes Trismegistus , the author of some hermetic writings, also considered as the father of alchemy . This current promotes a doctrine which states that there is only one true theology which is present in all religions and which was given by God to man. Many Christian writers, including Emerson, Lactantius, Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Giordano Bruno, Marsilio Ficino, Campanella, and Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, considered Hermes Trismegistus to be a wise pagan prophet who foresaw the coming of Christianity. Hermeticism influenced in different ways both the Fathers of the Church and the philosophers of the Renaissance.
